Winterproof Your Home With Our Best Maintenance Tips

We’re almost into December, which means that winter isn’t too far away. Early estimates indicate that we could be in for a few very chilly months, and should they be right, you need to get your property prepared for what the winter may be about to throw at it, and do so immediately.

Envisage Flush Windows in Golden Oak

Being lazy and failing to winterproof the building could come back to bite you in the end. Whereas if you get your backside into gear and ready it for any impending freezing conditions, you will be guaranteed cosy living quarters.

In any case, it would be silly not to ready your home for winter, purely because of how simple it is to winterproof your residence, beginning by putting in new windows and doors…

Install energy efficient windows and doors

There’s no hope of your home keeping out the cold if your windows and doors can’t keep the weather at bay, which is often the case with single glazed traditional timber windows and doors.

Upgrading to modern thermally efficient windows and doors, with the highest energy rating you can afford, will dramatically improve insulation and ensure that draughts are shut out.

As well as proving to be energy-saving, they will also save you a massive amount of money.

Get a boiler service scheduled in

When was the last time you had your boiler serviced, or indeed, have you ever had it serviced?

It should be serviced at least once a year by a gas engineer as an inspection of the boiler will determine whether it is running as efficiently as it should and will also help identify any potential problems with it.

Don’t be put off by the cost of buying a new boiler if you need one. They money it will save you over the long-term will help you get back much of the money you paid for it.

Add a solid roof to your extension

Your home will be the hub for your Christmas and New Year celebrations, so you’ll need all the space you can get.

If you have some form of extension attached onto the back of your house, but it gets too cold for you to use in winter, you might be able to fit a solid tiled roof to it.

This lightweight roof covering will heat up the extension and can have tiles or slates that deliberately imitate the tiles or slate you have on the roof of your house to complement them.
