Trent Valley Windows is capable of doing everything on your behalf. We can provide input on the design and also assist with planning, building, installation and take responsibility for any finishing touches the extension needs e.g. skirting boards, heating and lighting. We’re also happy to approach your local authority for planning permission if it’s needed and also arrange building regulations approval for the extension.

Your main point of contact will be one of our Installations Managers. They will be the person to speak to if you have any questions while the installation is proceeding, and they will keep you completely informed of everything that is going on until the project reaches its conclusion. A final inspection of the building will be carried out by a Trent Valley Windows Manager to ensure it complies with our Building Standards.

Position - Where do you envisage the extension being? Do you want privacy when enjoying the space? Would you like a spectacular external view? The answers to these questions will help determine your choice of roof, windows, doors and security accessories.

Function - Why do you want the extension and what purpose will it serve? It could be a location for the kids to play in, or a kitchen where you have more space to prep meals and serve up dinner. The functionality of the space will tell us what shape of extension you need. A square or rectangular design offers the most amount of floor space, or you could have an “L” shape if the space will be multi-purpose.

Aesthetics - Would you like the extension to have a specific type of appearance? We will have it looking exactly how you want. Site Access - To avoid any delays with the installation, we need complete unrestrictive access at the relevant site so that our lorries and trucks can deposit items and materials without any problems.

Demands on your Boiler - Can you be certain that your existing boiler is energy efficient enough to provide sufficient warmth to another room? You might need to replace yours, or you could fit underfloor heating.

More often than not, an extension will also require building regulations approval before being constructed. There are some extensions though that you can proceed to build without it. Either way, one of our surveyors will have a good idea of the situation and make sure that you don’t get caught out.

They will get in touch with your local authority to inform them of your plans and discover whether building regulations approval is likely to be needed. Whilst doing so, they will also check if it will require planning permission too.

A quality roof covering will offer fantastic weather protection and keep its interior well insulated over the years. At Trent Valley Windows, we have developed four different types of roofing system, and they’re all as good as each other, coming in a range of coloured finishes:

Modern Tile - The materials we use to develop this roofing system are about the best you can get and that’s why they have such a smart, sleek look. It won’t surprise you to know that it particularly complements modern residences, but it may surprise you that it looks so at home on traditional extensions too. Colour options for this roof are green, red, charcoal, ebony and umber.

Modern Slate - If you had to level one main criticism at traditional slates, it would be that they very easily crack and break over time, and once they do, it’s really hard work trying to repair them. Our modern slates are the completely opposite. They can stand firm against the weather and expertly mimic the appearance of traditional slates. You don’t have to worry about them cracking or breaking, which means, no maintenance! These slates come in finishes of stone, plum, pewter grey, brick red and black.

Traditional Tile - You cannot deny that traditional tiles have a look all of their own. If they appeal to you, but you fear they will let you down, you could always try our modern interpretation of modern tiles. They’re so sophisticated and will give the extension a classy aesthetic.

Traditional Slate - We find that our traditional slates are particularly well suited to traditional residences, which makes sense! Offering a luxurious feel, we can supply them in an array of colours, all sourced from the various local builders merchants we know around the region.

If you find yourself torn between the two ceiling options, have a chat with our team and see what they advise. You may not be aware that you can add heaters, fans or even a sound system to the ceiling. Much of the personality of the extension will ride on your choice of ceiling.

There is also lighting to think about. You will want to be able to use your extension at night, so it needs to be fully illuminated come night time.
