How To Get Your Windows And Doors Looking Boo-tiful For Halloween

Spooktacular decorations for your home

The colder weather and darker nights can sometimes get you down a bit, but we tell you what will really lift your spirits – decorating your home for Halloween.

There are all sorts of spook-tacular things you can do, such as having giant inflatable spiders in your garden or smearing your windows and doors in fake blood.

But if that sounds like too much hard work and expensive, you can still cause a fright or two with small scary touches, like these:

Display a door wreath on your front door

There’s still a few weeks to go until Christmas, and you don’t have to wait for that to have a door wreath proudly on display.

Autumnal door wreaths are everywhere right now. You can buy them from a number of online retailers, including Etsy, or you can attempt to make your own.

All you will need is some wire and a decent haul of leaves from outside, watching a video tutorial telling you how to do it.

Make the entrance ghoulishly eerie

If you don’t place them in your windows, have a couple of pumpkins on either side of your front door, nicely lit up with some battery-powered tea lights.

See if there’s a local pumpkin patch that you can take the kids to so that they can go and pick a few out, ahead of them being carved with a serrated knife. Sticking a scary stencil to each of the pumpkins will provide them with a guide to follow when carving.

For a final funny touch, put out a doormat that has a message of ‘Hey, Pumpkin’ or ‘Turn Back Now’.

Put lights in your windows

Divert people’s eyes towards your home at night by adding string lights to your windows. The most appropriate coloured lights for Halloween and autumn would be red and orange, which will make the place glow.

Generate a cosy feel indoors with the placement of mason jars on your window sills that are full of fairy lights. The sight of them will give you a warm and fuzzy sensation, which you will love as you watch Beetlejuice or an installment of the Harry Potter franchise.
