Orangeries - a bit posh? Not so, says Trent Valley Windows

Beginning back to the early 17th Century, the orangery became a fashionable addition to any estate belonging to people of a certain stature within the Netherlands, particularly Holland. Before the introduction of sweet oranges into England, all that were grown naturally were very bitter. The English nobility were enthusiastic to build their own orangeries to grow the sweeter variety that required warmer conditions. Building strong relations between the Dutch and the English gentry, orangeries began appearing across England.
